Three million "pocket-size magazines" distributed

Nampa, Idaho (August 13, 2001) – A year ago, Signs of the Times (English), El Centinela (Spanish), and La Sentinelle (French)—three of the church’s missionary journals—introduced a new way to witness. The publisher of these periodicals, Pacific Press, has produced three series of small article reprints known as "Pocket Signs," "Mini-El Centinela," and "Mini-La Sentinelle," that Adventist members can share with their non-Adventist friends and relatives. Each of these colorful "mini-magazines" covers the basic teaching of the Bible on a particular topic, yet each is small enough to fit easily in a pocket or purse.

Response from pastors and church members has been extremely positive. More than three million of these miniature missionary magazines have been distributed in one year. Each piece offers free Bible Study Guides from the Voice of Prophecy Discover Bible School. The wide distribution of these mini-magazines is partly responsible for the increasing demand for the Discover Bible Study Guides. Kurt Johnson, director of the VOP Discover Bible School, reports that approximately one-third of all requests for English Bible guides received by the VOP comes from Signs of the Times and its sister publications.

These pocket/purse size Bible studies represent the continuing commitment of Pacific Press to develop materials in multiple languages that church members can use effectively in their soul winning activities.

"We are certainly excited about the response," says Dale Galusha, Assistant Vice President for Ministries, "but we are not content. Our goal is to make sure that every home in North America has the opportunity to read a piece of Adventist literature."
