Pacific Press® mourns the deaths of Ross and Joyce Lauterbach

Nampa, Idaho (July 8, 2002) – Ross Lauterbach, VP/Chief Financial Officer at Pacific Press Publishing Association in Nampa, Idaho, and his wife Joyce, died in an auto accident near their home on Sabbath, July 6 at approximately 12:15 p.m.

The couple was returning home from church services when a car traveling south on a cross street failed to stop at an intersection and hit the Lauterbach’s vehicle. Ross, Joyce, and the driver of the other vehicle were killed instantly. Three occupants in the southbound car were critically injured and were taken by helicopter to a Boise hospital.

Ross Lauterbach graduated from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, with a BS in Business Administration. He worked his way through college at the Home Health Education Service, which serves literature evangelists, and continued there for one year after graduating before being drafted in the Army. When his time in the service ended, Ross went to Arizona and spent several years as manager of the Adventist Book Center. The next several years were spent as assistant treasurer and treasurer of conferences in North America before coming to Pacific Press fourteen years ago.

“[The Lauterbachs] made a rich contribution to the work of the church,” said General Conference president, Jan Paulsen. “Only the coming of Jesus and heaven will reveal the fruitage of their labor.”

Joyce and Ross were dedicated and involved church members. They have served on the Nampa SDA church board, taught Sabbath School, directed Vacation Bible School, and directed the church’s community service food and clothing ministry from a downtown building that they owned.

“Ross and Joyce will be greatly missed as our friends and for their dedication to the work of the church,” said Bob Kyte, President of Pacific Press. “Ross has given exemplary service and has made an outstanding contribution to the success and mission of Pacific Press. Words are inadequate to express the sense of loss we feel at the passing of Ross and Joyce.”

The Lauterbach’s are survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Tony Loomer, Sharla and Randy Jamison and teen-aged son Brandon Lauterbach. Gifts to Brandon Lauterbach’s educational fund may be sent to Pacific Press Publishing Association, P.O. Box 5353, Nampa, ID, 83653-5353.
