Special NAD subsidy makes Messiah available to students

Nampa, Idaho (February 13, 2003) - The North American Division Office of Education recently announced a special subsidy to encourage NAD schools to purchase the paperback edition of Messiah, the contemporary adaptation of Ellen White’s classic on the life of Jesus, The Desire of Ages.

Pacific Press’s new paperback edition contains the full text of the hardcover but is available in quantities for as low as $5.99 per copy. The NAD will subsidize $1.00 of the cost per book, when schools buy them for their students. Schools may take advantage of both the quantity prices and the NAD subsidy by placing their orders through their local Adventist Book Center.

According to the author, Jerry D. Thomas, Messiah is intended to reach young people. “My interest in adapting The Desire of Ages began as a teacher, when I wanted so much for students to see Ellen White’s beautiful picture of Jesus and they had such a hard time reading and understanding the book. This new edition makes it possible for every student, to have a copy of this precious story of Jesus.”

Jerry Kovalkski, vice president for education, North American Division agrees, “We are pleased that the author was able to bring the beautiful message of the Desire of Ages into a more current language for adult and young readers, and it is our hope that every school in NAD will take advantage of this subsidy.”
