Jerry Thomas accepts call to the Southwestern Union

Nampa, Idaho (March 5, 2003) Jerry Thomas, Pacific Press book editor, has accepted an invitation to serve as Communication Director for the Southwestern Union. He takes up his new duties in Texas in March, and a farewell was conducted for him at Pacific Press on Monday, March 3.

Jerry came to Pacific Press in 1991 as an assistant book editor. He subsequently became the senior book editor, a position he has held for a number of years. However, to a generation of Adventist children, Jerry Thomas is best known as the much-loved author of such books as the Detective Zack series, the Shoebox Kids series, and most recently, the Mixed-up Max books which he has written together with his wife, Kitty.

Jerry is also the author of Messiah, a contemporary adaptation of The Desire of Ages, Ellen White’s classic book on the life of Jesus. This book is proving to be extremely popular in classrooms and homes.

He has had a wide background of experience as a pastor, academy Bible teacher, and book editor, uniquely qualifying him for his new responsibilities as union communication department director, which will include editing the Southwestern Union Record.

Jerry has made a significant contribution during the twelve years that he has served at the publishing house, and we will miss his creativity and leadership in the trade book program. However, our relationship will continue. Jerry still has numerous ideas for books that he intends to write, and Pacific Press will be working with him on these projects in coming years. There are even rumors of a brand-new “Detective Zack”-type series of books!
