Pacific Press^® has announced the appointment of Dr. Kathy Beagles as the new editor for Guide magazine. Outgoing editor, Randy Fishell, served at Guide for 26 years but was unable to make the transition to Idaho last year. "Randy generously agreed to stay on and assist in the transition," says Jerry D. Thomas, vice president for product development. "Randy is one of the most creative people you'll ever meet and his impact on generations of our children as Guide editor is immeasurable. Our church owes him a debt of gratitude."

The action to appoint Beagles was voted by the Executive Committee of the North America Division of Seventh-day Adventists on January 14, 2016. Dr. Beagles has transitioned to her new role from her position as associate professor, and director of the MA and PhD in Religious Education programs, at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She says, "After teaching for eight years the why's and how's of passing on the faith, I am intrigued by the challenge of going back into the front lines and putting what God has taught me into practice."

Guide magazine is a weekly periodical that uses true stories to illustrate biblical truth and is targeted to 10- to 14-year-old youth. The first issue was published in October 1953 and by the end of its first year, subscriptions had reach 28,000. In 1964 the name was changed from Junior Guide to Guide and subscriptions reached a record 60,000. Kathy Beagles will be the eighth editor in the magazine's 64-year history. "We are delighted to have someone of Kathy's experience and expertise at Guide," says Thomas. "She is one of our church's foremost experts in religious education, and the ministry of Guide magazine is all about bringing our children into a strong and growing relationship with Jesus."

"You only have to glance around on a Sabbath morning to see it in the hands of children and adults alike and we are committed to continuing its legacy to future generations of young Seventh-day Adventists."
