Facing a parent's worst nightmare

Nampa, Idaho (June 15, 2015)

This week marks the 19th anniversary of the death of Shannon Marie Bigger. The young Washington Adventist Hospital intern was murdered in her Washington D.C. apartment just six days after her 25th birthday, on June 16, 1996. Shannon, the eldest daughter of Dr. Darold and Barbara Bigger of Walla Walla, Wash., was due to leave just two weeks later to take a position at Gem State Academy in Caldwell, Idaho.

News of her death shocked the Seventh-day Adventist community around the country. With her vivacious personality and obvious love for people, the young Walla Walla University graduate made friends everywhere, including among the members of the Spencerville SDA Church where she attended, and during her time as a student missionary on the Micronesian island of Yap.

Now Dr. Bigger has published A Time to Forgive, through Pacific Press®, which tells the incredible story of the family's struggle through this nightmare. The book opens with the phone call that forever changed a father's life and chronicles his journey through grief. But A Time to Forgive is more than a memoir. It is an effective guide for anyone struggling with the challenge of forgiveness in real life.

It contains three sections and the first covers what the family went through in coming to terms with Shannon's murder and how they finally found what they needed to carry on. The second takes an in-depth look at forgiveness, what it is, and what it is not. The final section offers a rather unique, and helpful, look at love. In addition to A Time to Forgive, Dr. Bigger has created a set of tools for groups and individuals to use in gaining greater insights into the amazing possibilities of forgiveness.

A DVD Seminar is available as well as a facilitator's guide for the seminar. And at AdventistBookCenter.com are free, downloadable participants guides.

Live for something. Do good, and leave behind you a monument of virtue that the storm of time can never destroy. Write your name, in kindness, love, and mercy, on the hearts of thousands you come in contact with year by year: you will never be forgotten. No! your name, your deeds, will be as legible on the hearts you leave behind you as the stars on the brow of evening. Good deeds will shine as the stars of heaven.
