Adventist Scientist Publishes Book on Dinosaurs

Nampa, Idaho (September 13, 2006) — According to a recent poll, nearly half of all Americans, 48 percent, believe in the Bible's version of our origins. America is a prominently Christian nation, but even among Christians there is debate over where dinosaurs came from. While many may agree dinosaurs were destroyed in the flood, not all agree that dinosaurs were made by God.

Elaine G. Kennedy, Ph. D., an Adventist research scientist in California, believes that God created the dinosaurs and she has written a book about them—the first of its kind by an Adventist. Dinosaurs, published by Pacific Press® in Nampa, Idaho, is Kennedy's first book. It is written primarily for kids, but its easy to read format makes it appealing to adults who find scientific jargon hard to understand.

Kennedy says, "As I have lectured over the years in churches, I have been appalled at the lack of knowledge among church members and shocked at their thinking regarding dinosaurs. As I began looking at this problem, I realized there really wasn't any good material available to kids or adults that combined scientific information and biblical knowledge. So I decided to write Dinosaurs."

L. Jim Gibson, director for the Geoscience Research Institute in Loma Linda, Calif., says, "There is a real need to provide Christian children with information on dinosaurs presented from a creationist perspective. Dr. Kennedy's book offers an authoritative, Bible-based perspective on a topic so many children love."

"What I respect about Dr. Kennedy is she doesn't speculate; nor does she tell you what to believe. She lays out the facts that are known and invites you to think things through yourself. Her book, Dinosaurs, helps you face the facts head on and try to figure out where dinosaurs once fit into God's creation," says Jerry D. Thomas, communications director for the Southwestern Union.

Dr. Kennedy is adjunct professor of geology at Southwestern Adventist University and a geological consultant. In addition, Dr. Kennedy has worked as a research scientist at the Geoscience Research Institute in Loma Linda, Calif., from 1991-2005. She holds a bachelor's degree in geology from Phillips University, a master's degree in geology from Loma Linda University, and a doctorate in geology from the University of Southern California. Dr. Kennedy has spent her life studying dinosaurs, particularly dinosaur eggs. She has done field research in areas such as Patagonia, Wyoming, Montana, and the Grand Canyon.

Copies of her book, Dinosaurs, can be purchased at any local Adventist Book Center®, or by calling (800) 765-6955, as well as online at www.AdventistBookCenter.com. It retails for $15.99.
