NEWSFLASH, April 27, 2006 – Adventists Get Ready for Ten Commandments Day

Nampa, Idaho (April 27, 2006) - Adventists all across the Division are getting ready for the first-ever Ten Commandments Day next weekend. Many churches within the North American Division are planning a special Sabbath service on May 6 prior to the celebration of the first-ever Ten Commandments Day on May 7.

3ABN Television will be hosting a Ten Commandments Weekend May 5 through May 7 with a special live broadcast from Washington D.C. anchored by Danny Shelton and Shelley Quinn, as well as a host of others. 3ABN is also planning live broadcasts from California with Doug Batchelor, from Florida with Wintley Phipps, from New York with John Lomacang, and the Dominican Republic with John Dinzey.

In addition, the North American Religious Liberty Association is sponsoring an event called Written in the Heart, on each coast of the United States. The first one will be on May 6 at the Capitol Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church in Washington D.C. The second one will be on May 7 at the Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion in Seattle, Washington. Both events are open to the public and will highlight several prominent Adventists.

These events offer a wonderful opportunity to church members to share the gospel with residents in their local area, as well as friends and family. Pacific Press has developed two resources about the Ten Commandments to share with non-Adventists: Taking a Stand for the Ten Commandments and The Ten Commandments Under Attack.

Taking a Stand for the Ten Commandments is a compelling 8-page sharing piece by Mark Finley designed to present a balanced call to Christ and the Commandments. In The Ten Commandments Under Attack, twelve prominent Adventists have contributed their thoughts on the commandments in a pocket-sized 80-page book. Churches in North America have already ordered over 700,000 copies of Taking a Stand for the Ten Commandments to distribute, many of which are being zip-code mailed direct to homes, and over 68,000 copies of The Ten Commandments Under Attack have been ordered.

Pacific Press® also distributes a mini-Signs leaflet about the Sabbath and a pamphlet by Danny Shelton called the The Forgotten Commandment, as well as a Ten Commandments CD. The Forgotten Commandment, Taking a Stand for the Ten Commandments, and a mini-El Centinela on the Sabbath are available in Spanish.

The Ten Commandments Day is a nationwide movement by prominent Christian leaders and religious broadcasters to support the Decalogue.
